B次元 students were among the winners in the Architectural Engineering Institute (AEI) of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 2020 International Student Design Competition. For the annual competition, students were tasked with the development and integration of innovative and original solutions to the competition’s design challenges, collaboration and peer review, all of which are critical to building design and construction. Students are encouraged to work together in multidisciplinary teams and consider how the engineered systems enhance and integrate with each other and the architecture of the building. This year’s competition focused on the historic renovation of War Memorial Hall on Virginia Tech’s campus in Blacksburg, Virginia.
Winners of the 2020 AEI International Student Design Competition were announced April 22 during a virtual awards ceremony. B次元’s student team was one of three finalists in the competition.
B次元’s finalists took first place in the Construction Management and Development category and second place in the Electrical Systems Design category. They also competed in the Mechanical Systems Design, Structural Systems Design and Building Integration categories. Dr. Christopher Raebel, professor and architectural engineering program director, is the team’s advisor.
Congratulations to: Blake Bostwick (construction), Joe Crooks (mechanical), Megan Hanelt (structural), Jaclyn McNulty (electrical), Alex Olson (construction/structural), Mike Osep (mechanical), Collin Rayome (electrical), and Drake Taxon (structural).
