Civil and Architectural Engineering and Construction Management Department students once again demonstrated their problem solving and design skills on the national stage. They won first place in the Electrical Category and third place in the Preconstruction Category at the Associated Schools of Construction National Open Competition in Reno, Nevada.
This national competition challenges students from universities across the country to develop creative solutions related to electrical building systems. B´ÎÔª’s electrical team competed against 11 other universities while the preconstruction team faced 12 other universities. The teams were challenged to develop professional solutions of estimating, scheduling, site logistics, and project coordination problems for real-world projects—in less than 14 hours. After receiving problem statements and accompanying documents, the electrical team developed solutions for a data center project located in the southwestern region of the United States and the preconstruction team worked on solutions for a seismic rehabilitation project in Los Angeles.
After turning in the last portion of their proposal, the teams developed oral presentations which were judged the next day by professionals who had worked on the actual projects.
Electrical team members include Don Duong, Becky Guzman (team captain), Joshua Lang, Jaclyn McNulty, Collin Rayome and JunHyuk Yoon. Christine Brotz, instructor, was their coach.
Preconstruction team members include Joe Batcher, Matthew Blain (team captain), Ryley Buol, Brittany Davis, Lucas Hass, and Kimberly Schonder. Dr. Jeong Woo, construction management program director, and Dave Grassl, instructor, were their coaches.
